Training and Certification: Prospective security guards are required to pass the SIRA (Security Industry Regulatory Agency), PSBD (Private Security Business Department), or DPS (Dubai Police Security) exam, which are government-run programs to prepare future security personnel. Security guards are typically required by law to complete at least 48 hours of instruction within their first days on the job. The training covers various subjects such as crowd management, CPR, use of force, workplace aggression, theft prevention, note-taking, and the responsibility of the security guard.

Experience: Candidates for security guard positions are often required to have at least one year of job experience. Employers may prefer individuals with prior experience as a security guard, security officer, or in a similar function, or those who have served in the police department or the army.

Physical Fitness and Other Skills: In addition to formal qualifications, security guards are expected to possess certain skills and attributes such as customer service, technology proficiency, communication, vigilance, attention to detail, a powerful build, English proficiency (Arabic language skills are beneficial), the ability to follow instructions, willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty, honesty, loyalty, and a clear criminal record.

Physical Fitness

The physical fitness standards for security guards in the UAE are as follows:

Height and Weight: Security guards must have a minimum height of 160 cm (150 cm for females) and weight according to the standard table of height and weight.

Chest: The chest measurement should be at least 80 cm with an expansion of 4 cm (no minimum requirement for females).

Eye Sight: Security guards must have far-sight vision of 6/6, near vision of 0.6/0.6 with or without correction, free from color blindness, and able to identify and distinguish colors in security equipment displays. They should also be able to read and understand English alphabets and Arabic numerals.

Physical Condition: Security guards must be free from knock knees and flat feet, capable of running one kilometer in six minutes.

Hearing: Security guards must be free from hearing defects, able to hear and respond to spoken voices and alarms generated by security equipment.

Dexterity and Strength: Security guards must possess the necessary dexterity and strength to conduct searches, handle objects, and use force for restraining individuals when needed.
